As the weather heats up we are spending more time in the local parks and recreational areas making sure that we get the most out of what Richmond area has to offer. In case you have missed our previous park excursions click here.
Today we are visiting Pouncey Tract Park in Henrico. It is just a hop and a skip away from Short Pump Mall so if you have not exhausted your children enough before, during or after shopping this is the place for you. It is also really close to Richmond Strickers fields so a perfect get away with little ones when he older children play.
The park is open but it is surrounded by woods on three sides so trying to control multiple children is not as hard as in other parks
This seems to be an older park with not many slides
actually the only slides are these two from the house
there are teeter-totters and little train that little kids can play on
but the biggest problem is that the park is wide open and therefore open for all the heat to beam on you
unfortunately the entire area is exposed to sun and this is the only shelter area found
The view from the shelter area shows the entire park area. The park is small and not too impressive
except for this. Whatever this is again. I am learning that often in the area parks you find equipment that you have no idea how to use. If I can’t imagine what to do with it how will a 2 year old react? Please if you understand the point of these contraptions leave a comment below. Maybe it is a mommy exercise program?
There were some swings that are of course my daughters favorite but where too hot for her to enjoy it.
Positives: Close to Short Pump Mall and Broad and Pump in case you need the last minute energy depreciating excursion, large running area, paths and valley ball courts, semi closed in meaning there is only one exit for your kids to run off to. When I was there it was not crowded at all, maybe because it was really hot.
Negatives: No shade, not a large sitting area, the play area is older and does not offer many slides. Bathroom? What bathroom? I did not see any… did I mention there are a lot of trees and bushes outside the playground?

The advantage of this park is that it has a huge beach volley ball field that is right behind playground and children treat it as a big sand box. There is also a paved path and a nature trail in the woods that is also appealing to some children. Many come to teach their young children to ride a bike there.
They are also moving an old schoolhouse to this Park. It’s under construction now, but will be an added feature to the park…
There is a bathroom accross the parkinglot, but I’m not sure its always open – i think its part of the striker park. there is also a water fountain on that building.
