In case you have not noticed Summer is slowly winding down and even though there are no signs of fall yet we are all thinking about school. If you have not had a chance to take a vacation, planning a staycation or only a day away Little Island Park is a perfect. Located on the Atlantic Ocean south of Virginia Beach and adjacent to False Cape State Park, it is the southern most ocean point of Virginia.
It is about 2 hours drive from Richmond therefore far enough from the office but close enough for a day get away.
What else can make you forget your worries like sand beaches and waves.
Being swept away
Personally I know I do not take advantage of my ocean proximity. I was much better at getting away from the city when I lived in Chicago.
So I made a pact with myself that I will make sure to schedule appointment with nature more often.
It has an amazing rejuvenating effect
and for others spending a day at the Ocean Side means catching some fresh crab for dinner
We just stuck to sand
and waves
So even if you are no where near the ocean do not forget to take advantage of the State Park near you.
There is a fee of 5$ (3$ for VA beach residents) to enter Little Island Park but in return you get a life guard on duty, bathroom/changing facilities and if you want to play in the sun, amazing playground. Which I had lots of pictures of but they disappeared.
The only showers are outside so pack lots of towels and be prepared to bring some sand home.
If you are more into fishing and critter watching then swimming, skip Little Island and continue to False Cape State Park.
You can also continue on to the Back Bay Natural Wildlife Refuge, but unfortunately for me both those trips are not for 3 year olds on a hot summer day.
