Irene

As if the Earthquake post was not enough now I am following with a hurricane.  In a span of a week I experienced both and I have to say that I have a favorite.  When forced with a choice of  Earthquake over Hurricane I definitely choose the former.  It lasts only few seconds, minutes at the most and even though it may leave you shaking for days and crack few walls it is nothing in comparison to hours, days and for some weeks (week plus) without power.

There is however nothing better then a kindness of strangers at the time of crises, opening their doors, fridges and laundry rooms to whoever needs help.

With few friends of mine without power for a week you could not imagine the amount of invitations that were given out to use anything they needed.  It would be nice to be out of my place for a weekend, almost like a vacation, under any other circumstances.

We are however very practical, and living in a wooden subdivision decided to pack ship to a nearby hotel before anything fell on our head.  Nothing did of course because we were not here but if we were I am certain it would not be pretty.

My neighbor to the left lost part of his fence as the tree fell down

Array

5 houses down another neighbor lost 3 trees one blocking the road

So when some laughed at our sudden escape I told kids to back up their stuff and to choose 3 books to take with them, in case we get really bored in the hotel room

My son chose three from the list above and I was eagerly waiting for my daughters favorites.

She on the other hand omitted the list and climbed herself on the chair and picked these:

Better known as New Testament Psalms, Polish Phrasebook and a Podrecznik Madrosci Tego Swiata (loosely translated as The Book of Worldly Wisdom).

The girl can not read and these where her choices.  I guess I know who to put in charge of packing in case of real emergency.

Whew! I am so glad you guys got out of there. I am also glad the aftermath of the storm can be dealt with. These awful storms can be so unpredictable. And we dive in a wooded area that looks for all the world like what you have shown in your pictures. And I KNOW first hand just how threatening and scary even a 40 MPH wind can be – don’t ever want to try out your winds!

I do not believe your Maya! She must be an old soul, Kathy.
