Halloween

For the past couple of days I have been missing.  I have been chasing goblins from my kitchen and playing paleontologist to the family of Pteranodons that has been blessed with a one random TRex sibling.

 Don’t ask.

In order to understand you must have small kids that are glued to Jim Henson Company’s Dinosaur Train.  Yes, Dinosaur Train.  A series that combines two of the most important toddler boy interests dinosaurs and trains.  My little girlie is just an innocent bystander.  I swear on her 3rd birthday she is getting barbies and may be introduced to the world of Disney Princesses.  I sure hope that this influx of girlie imagining in our household will not make my son dress up as Sleeping Beauty next year.  So far I have been good at keeping the household gender neutral, so I thought.  Not too many dolls, not too many cars, educational programing that pertains to both.

Yikes… so now on the day of Halloween my older 12 year old daughter, better known as Alice

Array

was visibly upset that her almost 3 year old sister was not a princess like the rest of her age group but female dinosaur figure.

Its not like my toddler minded.  She loves Tiny the character she was dressed as and quite frankly knows her a lot more then Ariel, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella combined.

How long will I have till the great gender schism?  When will my boy girl twins decide that they no longer want to live this ambiguous lifestyle and they want to create male and female roles.  My son so far is getting the better end, since anything that is more neutral is now considered boyish.  No more He-Man and Cowboys and Indians.  Now in this politically correct enviroment boys learn about trains and dinosaurs not swords and guns.

I guess I should bring all that back.  Next year she will be a Princess, with a crown and sparkly shoes to match, and he a sword carring knight….. Of course to go with tradition I will be a Witch.

  1. There were Dinosaur train costumes? This was the first request of my kids but I brushed it off because I was not interested in making them. If only I’d known…

  2. Ameena says:

I think it’s great your 3-year-old shunned the typical girly costume – mine was determined to be Tinkerbell and I am very much over the Disney characters! Doctor…lawyer…astronaut anyone?
