I have been playing a lot with jello. It is so fun, easy and of course everyone eats it readily. Do you know anyone who doesn’t like jello? After making broken glass jello I fell in love with it once more. I know I have to stop the madness. With the way that I am going we will be eating jello every day for months. Now with World Cup fever you can make these into any flag imaginable.
For this recipe I mixed 2 large (6oz) containers of Red colored jello with 2 1/2 cups boiling water, till incorporated and poured into 9×13 inch pan. I took 1 small (3oz) box of blue jello mixed with 1/2 cup hot water and poured into 5×9 loaf pan. I put both of them in a fridge and chilled 3+ hours.
Since I am not very good at straight lines I took pop sticks to mark all 13 stripes before cutting.
You can use paper strips, whatever really I just think it makes it a little easier to cut straight lines
If your jello was chilled long enough it will come out with no problem even without any warming. If it sticking it means you have not chilled it long enough.
After peeling off the white stripes, take out the blue jello
Using a cookie cutter cut out the stars. You can make a period flag if you choose to. I apparently can’t count and was too preoccupied with making the stars even that I ended up with 29 stars. A little bit short don’t you think? I have no idea what made me forget to actually count them. I wanted to make sure they were off set so I never bothered to be exact.
So for all you History buffs can you tell me the time in American History when the US Flag had 29 stars?
Now place the Blue (Union) jello on the red stripes and cut the edge making it even
peel off the rest of the stripes and most likely feed them to eager toddlers
Fit the blue piece back in and refrigerate while you make the white cream
To make the white stripes we will need 1/2 cup cold water, 1/2 cup hot water, 2 packets gelatin, 1 (14oz) container of condensed milk.
Place the gellatin into 1/2 cup of cold water and let sit for 5 minutes
they call it blooming. I don’t know who they are and why they are doing it but I don’t question. When gelatin has bloomed it looks like this
add 1/2 cup of hot water
mix well until dissolved
add in the condensed milk
mix well together
take the jello out of the refrigerator and pour in the white parts
Chill for about 2 hours and you have a beautiful American Flag. If you are on a diet you can use Sugar Free Jello. If you are French you can make a French Flag for Bastille Day. In other words Have Fun !!!
